Filing & Payment Instructions

Federal Online Estimated Payments

  • Website is https://www.irs.gov/payments

    • DO NOT – Go to your Account, unless you already have an IRS account

    • DO NOT CREATE ACCOUNT.

  • Scroll down to Pay from Your Bank Account or Pay by Debit Card, Credit Card

  • You can choose “Direct Pay (Bank account)” (NO Fee) for your payment or “By Card or Digital Wallet” (there is a fee for this method).

  • Choose ”Make a Payment”

    • Reason for Payment is ESTIMATE PAYMENT

    • Apply Payment to “1040ES (for 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ)”

    • Tax Period for Payment is the year for which the payment is due. For example, for a 2024 estimated tax payment , the tax period would be 2024.

  • You will need your tax return from a previous year to verify your identity, the website will ask for the following information from the tax year you choose:

    • Filing status in that year

    • Your name and address

    • Your SSN

    • Your birthdate

  • Enter your payment information

  • Please record any verification information, in case needed at a later date to look up a payment

Colorado Online Estimated Payments

  • Website is https://www.colorado.gov/revenueonline/_/#1

  • You can choose “Debit or Credit Card” ($0.75 plus 2.25% of payment amount fee) or “E-Check” ($1 Fee) for your payment.

  • Enter the taxpayer’s name and then click “NEXT” to add the payment you wish to make Click “Add a Payment” and enter the information in all fields

    • Account type is “Individual Income Tax”

    • Payment Type is “Estimated Payment”

    • Enter the amount to be paid ID

    • Type is “Social Security Number”

    • Filing Period is the last date of the tax period for which the payment is due.

    • For example, for a 2024 tax estimated payment, the filing period would be 12/31/2024.

  • “Add” the payment, then “OK”

  • Click the “Pay Online” button and complete the information for the payment
